One-of-a-kind custom works of functional art.
Authenticity
As our name implies, we strive for what is beautiful. To this end, Boneyard Beautiful attempts to conceal the construction techniques unless we regard the technique to be beautiful in its own right. We join parts by using all sorts of conventional and unconventional methods.
In order to produce the best effects, artistic decisions must be made about what fraction of an interesting part should be used. And technical decisions must be made to ensure the parts will fit together. Consequently, even though we take pains to avoid altering parts, it is sometimes necessary to do so. For example, in order to avoid unsightly gaps we will face-off the ends to ensure that they are flat and parallel.
Sometimes, an unavoidable outcome of joining parts results in altering the state in which the part was discovered in the boneyard. For example, rust might be blown off a part by a torch, or nicked by an abrasive wheel exposing bright metal. In order to maintain the beauty, Boneyard Beautiful will re-rust a part or otherwise conceal the bright metal by other means. In all other respects, authenticity is preserved.
Felt Pads
We apply felt pads to the bottom of the art work to protect your furniture. Nonetheless, the art is heavy and awkward to handle, and so strength and caution is required when handling these objects or your furniture will be damaged.
Heavy and Awkward Pieces
If the piece is too heavy for you to manage easily then get help or you risk injuring yourself.
Lamps
Boneyard Beautiful performs the final assembly of lamp parts that are acquired from standard commercial sources. Boneyard Beautiful lamps are not UL approved (because all of our products are unique, we could not possibly afford to pay Underwriter's Laboratories to test and approve every single lamp; interestingly, it costs $564 to purchase a single copy of the lighting standard, let alone the cost testing to the standard which has something on the order of 120 test requirements!).
Boneyard Beautiful, as a standard practice, employs the UL lamp knot, and uses lamp cord where the copper leads are silver soldered at their ends, and ensures that the hot lead is connected to the interior prong or button of the socket(s). Welds and other construction methods
Boneyard Beautiful makes every attempt to make strong welds in metal that may have been compromised in numerous ways. Although highly unlikely, if a weld fails under any circumstance, Boneyard Beautiful will not be held responsible for any negative consequences. Please don’t let the apparent robustness of a piece mislead you; you should treat the artwork as fragile.
All mechanical methods can fail, therefore, treat the artwork carefully and take every precaution not to stress the joints. Carry every piece by cradling the base while supporting the top.
